Athletic Championships is excited to be moving into season number with the Varsity Standard of Scoring for Dance. We are very excited to take part in the scoring system and are confident that our coaches, parents, and athletes will have a better understanding as they go from event to event.
The Benefits:
• The perfect score sheet. More than 13 event producers contributed to this master score sheet, with more than 300 year of cheer experience
between them.
• One routine, mulitiple events. There will be no need to change routine elements when coming to one of our events so you can hit the score sheet better.
• Confident dancers, as routines stay consistent, your athletes will improve.
• Safety improves - dancers focus on performing perfectly.

Athletic Championships is excited to be utilizing the Varsity Standard of Scoring again this Season. Varsity All Star realizes how much stress it puts on you, your coaches, and your parents to be facing a different “playing field” at every event you attend, and we all feel that the Varsity Standard of scoring will create a strong, fair, and competitive environment moving forward so that no matter what Varsity Brand event you attend your entire program will understand where the scores come from and how they are calculated.
Here at ATHLETIC we will be offering the Category Scoring version of Varsity Score system. Through both its success at Worlds and several of our sister companies last season we feel the Category style judging offers our judges the strongest tool to properly place your teams. If you are unfamiliar with Category Scoring this system puts judges in a very strong position to succeed. In the face of modern all star routines it is a lot to ask one person to watch every aspect that is put on the floor and then properly categorize, judge, and place those pieces together within large divisions to determine your team’s standing. In the category scoring system judges are recognized not just for their overall expertise, but the actual portion of the routine they are most qualified to judge. Two judges are then assigned to each section of the score sheet: building, tumbling, and overall routine. Those judges are only responsible for their portions of the score sheets. So instead of a judge having to process every piece of a two and half minute routine that may have as many as thirty six athletes performing, they are only responsible for judging the sections of the routine that fall under their portion of the score sheet. Rather than judging all the pieces and placing them, a building judge for example simply has to decide the placement of each team’s pyramids, stunts, and tosses. We feel strongly that by reducing the amount of information that these judges must process within an individual routine we vastly increase their ability to judge what they are seeing.
The breakdown of the Category Scoring this year goes as follows:
Individual Categories:
The Creativity portion of the score sheet is broken into two sections, skills creativity and routine creativity, worth 5 points each. Skill creativity will be split into two parts worth 2.5 each, and will be judged by the Building and Tumbling Judges. Routine Creativity will be judged by the Overall Routine judges.
ATHLETIC will have a total of 8 Judges on one panel for every Championship this year; 2 for each Category (6 total) and 2 Point Deductions/Safety Judges. At Athletic Championships we will value the routine as follows:
Building skills 30%
Tumbling 30%
Overall Routine 30%
Overall Creativity 10%
We are looking forward to another amazing Season! We wish you all great success everywhere you compete, and look forward to seeing you at one of our 15 outstanding Championship Events this year!

We will place you in the next available time slot which will be at least 15 minutes from the previous performance time. Judging will begin at the point of the interuption. No additional warm-up time will be given.
If the interruption is due to failure of your equipment, you may either continue the routine without music or you will have the option to start your routine again at the point of malfunction in the next available time slot.
In the event that an injury occurs in the warm up area you will be given 45 minutes to rework the routine with the available members (available members would be anyone within yourprogram that is age eligible for that team). If any part of the routine is unable to continue due to the absence of an available member then those parts of the routine will count as a missed skill.
If an injury occurs on the competition mat it is at the discretion of the judging director or a team coach to stop the routine. If the routine is stopped, the team will be given 45 minutes to rework the routine with the available members (available members would be anyone within yourprogram that is age eligible for that team). If any part of the routine is unable to continue due to the absence of an available member then those parts of the routine will count as a missed skill. The routine will then be judged from the point where the injury occurred.
Athletic Championships does not provide spotters at our championships with the exception of the Dallas and Houston event. You may, however provide your own spotters for the routine. Here are the AACCA guidelines for spotters:
While team spotters are already required for specific classes of skills, teams should be allowed the opportunity to provide their own additional, experienced spotters during their routine. The team may allow the competition organizers to provide additional spotters with the understanding that these spotters may not be intimately familiar with the specific routine. Competition organizers may allow teams to waive the requirement for additional spotters if the team feels that is in the best interest of safety for their team. Regardless of the spotting policy utilized, the actual policy must be made available to the teams prior to registration for the event.
These additional spotters are designated as “routine spotters” to differentiate them from “team spotters” that are part of the actual team. The “routine spotters” are in addition to the team and do not take the place of “team spotters” required by rule. For example, if an extended stunt requires a spotter by rule, that skill must be spotted by a member of the team and not the additional “routine spotter.” “Routine spotters” must not take part in the routine choreography and are there solely to be in a position to spot an errant skill.
Jewelry of any kind is prohibited within the Cheer categories. Jewelry needs to be removed and cannot be disguised or covered up. The types of jewelry that are prohibited include, but are not limited to: earrings, tongue, nose and belly rings, anklets, necklaces and pins. Jewelry is allowed within the Dance categories.
The only props allowed within the Cheer categories are signs, megaphone and poms. Signs must be used to evoke a crowd response. All props must be carried onto the performance area by the competitors. No stationary props allowed (ex. placing props on floor to help mark spacing). All Props must be used in the routine. Props are allowed within the Dance categories.
